Chapter 1: Meet Jussi Luukkonen

In this edition, we are excited to introduce Jussi Luukkonen, MBA, a distinguished writer and the newest editor at Illumination Integrated Publications on Medium. Jussi dedicates his days to reviewing numerous stories, offering constructive feedback to writers, and ensuring timely publication.

Trained as a theater director in the early 1980s at the Finnish Broadcasting Company's Radio Theatre, Jussi transitioned into digital media in the late 1980s. In 1991, he co-founded To The Point Ltd, the pioneering digital design agency in Finland, which flourished rapidly.

During this time, Jussi embraced Nichiren-SGI Buddhist philosophy, which has been instrumental in helping him maintain composure in various situations. His interest in Buddhist principles extends to leadership and personal development.

Leading Finland's fastest-growing digital agency was both fulfilling and demanding for Jussi. His company garnered more design accolades than all its rivals combined, setting a high standard for quality in the industry and attracting numerous high-profile clients.

The birth of his son, Marius Ariel, in 2002 marked a pivotal moment in Jussi's life. He decided to leave his corporate position to focus on fatherhood, building a deep bond with Marius. "Marius is the best thing that ever has happened to me, and I owe him my whole life," reflects Jussi.

Over the past two decades, Jussi has held leadership positions across education, corporate settings, and the public sector. Relocating to New Zealand in 2006 opened a new chapter in his vibrant life story.

Currently, Jussi is devoted to writing and coaching, aiming to guide emerging leaders in enhancing their presentation, critical thinking, and leadership skills. He has authored six books, five of which are in Finnish, with his latest, "Digital Campfires," published in English. His diverse writing portfolio includes scripts for interactive digital content, spanning topics from Marine Cartography to corporate training.

Jussi expresses his passion for storytelling through the lens of leadership, practical Buddhist philosophy, and creativity, striving to foster a brighter and happier future for others. He describes himself as a "curiosity expert," likening his quest for knowledge to that of a magpie seeking shiny new experiences. "I love to see business in art and art in business," he shares.

Jussi is keenly observant, often analyzing people’s behaviors to understand their motivations and the occasional frustrations they cause. "I want to contribute toward peace, culture, and education in my small way—helping people achieve happiness, one small sentence at a time."
