Celebrating One Year of the Side Hustle Club Newsletter

Written on

Chapter 1: A Year in Review

In April 2021, I launched the Side Hustle Club newsletter on Substack, and since then, we've seen steady growth. With the exception of major holidays, I've sent out weekly emails. For those who joined us in the early days, it's clear that much has evolved. My initial newsletters were a bit rough around the edges, often lacking sufficient content, yet we managed to keep things going.

Over time, various sections have been introduced and removed, and I continue to explore fresh ideas. Here’s a recap of the changes that have occurred over the past year.

Section 1.1: Evolution of Newsletter Sections

I've revamped the sections of the newsletter numerous times. Currently, I've settled on a few favorites:

  • Welcome/intro
  • Tweet of the week
  • eBay BOLO
  • Stories from the publication
  • Cute animal gif

While this lineup has remained relatively stable, I occasionally swap the eBay BOLO for domain flipping opportunities or feature a book ad. I enjoy experimenting with different sections and analyzing the engagement metrics to see what resonates with you. This playful approach will likely continue in the future.

Subsection 1.1.1: Monthly Income Reports

At the start of each month, I share a side hustle income report detailing earnings from the previous month. This breakdown highlights which side hustles were lucrative for me and how much I made from each. The response has been positive, so expect this to be a regular feature.

Subsection 1.1.2: Writing Competition

Last July, I organized a writing competition exclusively for newsletter subscribers, with a prize of $100. While it was a fun initiative, I'm uncertain about hosting it again due to the math involved, which isn't my favorite subject.

Section 1.2: The Freelance Writing Job Board

For a time, I curated freelance writing opportunities and shared them through the newsletter. Though I was proud of this job board, it saw declining engagement, so it's unlikely to return.

Chapter 2: Upcoming Changes on the Horizon

As we look ahead, subscribers can anticipate several exciting changes.

Section 2.1: More Free Content

I have no intention of reducing the amount of free content we offer. I value our community and enjoy promoting fellow side hustlers.

Section 2.2: Brand Collaborations

Recently, a few companies have approached me about advertising space. I'm hesitant, as I prefer to promote quality products. However, if a trusted brand offers a discount specifically for my subscribers, I may consider it. This could provide added value while supporting the newsletter's sustainability.

Section 2.3: Inviting Guest Contributors

I'm contemplating allowing other side hustlers to write introductory sections for the newsletter. They could share insights about their own projects or experiences, fostering greater reader involvement.

Section 2.4: New Free Digital Products

I might also develop additional free digital products in the future. Currently, I possess some discount codes for my audiobooks but am unsure how to distribute them. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Don't Forget to Subscribe!

If you haven't subscribed yet, now's the time! It's free, enjoyable, and all about increasing your income. If that sounds like your kind of content, you'll fit right in.

The first video titled "I Bought 1000 REAL YouTube Subscribers... Here's What Happened" explores the effects of purchasing subscribers on YouTube channels, revealing insights that can be valuable for anyone considering similar tactics.

The second video, "Most YouTube Channels Will NEVER Hit 1000 Subscribers... Here's Why," discusses the common pitfalls that prevent many YouTube channels from reaching this crucial milestone, offering advice on how to avoid them.
