To illustrate, consider winning the lottery. Initially, you’re overwhelmed with joy and disbelief. But after several weeks or months, that thrill diminishes, and you start taking your wealth for granted, feeling like your old self again. This phenomenon is hedonic adaptation at work.

So, how does this relate to feeling trapped in your routine? It’s quite straightforward: if we consistently adapt to positive shifts in our lives, we’ll eventually return to our original happiness level, regardless of how significant the change may be. Without actively seeking improvements, we may find ourselves stuck in a monotonous cycle.

However, there’s encouraging news! We can break free from the hedonic adaptation cycle and enhance our happiness. Here are a few strategies to help you get started:
