Engaging in the This or That Writing Challenge: My Perspective
Written on
Chapter 1: The Writing Dilemma
In a delightful twist, Karen Schwartz has presented an engaging This or That quiz centered around the world of writing. It's time to dive in and share my responses!
Musical Play vs. Blockbuster Film
When faced with the choice of creating either a musical play or a blockbuster film, my initial inclination was towards the musical. However, upon reflection, I find myself leaning toward the film. While I have a deep appreciation for Broadway, I doubt my ability to craft all the music required. Ultimately, the allure of producing a blockbuster film is more enticing to me.
Casting Choices for a Movie About My Life
Ideally, one might choose an emerging star to portray them, but I can't help but wish for Sandra Bullock to take on my character. Perhaps a talented newcomer could play a supporting role instead.
The Tone of My Autobiography
If I were to pen my autobiography, it would likely lean more towards the serious side. My life has been punctuated by significant health challenges and the profound loss of my parents, which makes humor difficult to weave into my narrative, despite my love for comedic writing.
Self-Publishing: A "Real" Author?
Self-publishing does qualify you as a published author, as you've put in the effort to create a book. However, I tend to hold more respect for those whose works are picked up by publishing houses. It suggests that others believed in the worth of your manuscript enough to invest in it.
Children's Books vs. Travel Blogs
Given my affection for children and the encouragement I've received to write for them, I would choose to create a children's picture book. The prospect of a travel blog feels unrealistic, as I don't travel extensively.
The Role of Ghostwriters
Ghostwriters often transform someone's story into a book. If the original storyteller simply narrates their tale, I believe they shouldn't claim sole authorship. Acknowledging the ghostwriter would be more appropriate, although that might eliminate the 'ghost' aspect entirely!
When I Became a "Writer"
I recognized my identity as a writer during my late teenage years. That was when I began to take writing seriously, becoming a reporter and eventually the editor-in-chief of my college newspaper. Later, I wrote feature articles for my local paper and contributed a chapter to Internet Secrets, part of the Internet For Dummies series.
A Gift from a Respected Author
If a cherished author were to bequeath me something, I would hope for their pen rather than a chair. The comfort of their seating is uncertain, but holding their pen could serve as a profound inspiration.
Favorite Authors: Gender Perspective
I have several favorite authors, the majority of whom are women, alongside one male author.
Support for My Writing
The strongest supporters of my writing are my therapist and friends. I used to rely heavily on my late mother for support. My therapist regularly reads my work on Medium, and I print stories for friends who lack internet access.
