Unlocking the Path to Earning $1,000 on Medium in 2022

Chapter 1: My Journey to $1,000 on Medium
I won’t keep you in suspense—let's get straight to the point. To earn over $1,000 on Medium in 2022, I wrote 56 articles. However, this is just the beginning of the story.
As of April 20, 2022, I have authored a total of 242 articles on Medium, most of which were published in the past six months. It’s important to set realistic expectations; I prefer to prepare aspiring writers with the truth about what it really takes rather than just boosting them with empty motivation. While motivation can be helpful, it is fleeting and shouldn't be the only driving force behind your writing.
Writing 242 articles could require at least 242 hours of your time—equivalent to six full weeks of a 40-hour workweek. This is certainly achievable, but I believe that simply writing once a week or once a month will not set you apart on this platform.
My commitment to Medium is serious; I treat it like a full-time job to earn a full-time income. Currently, I dedicate 2 to 3 hours daily, 6 to 7 days a week, to my writing. While I have the potential to increase that time, it's a step in the right direction as I build momentum.
You can achieve this as well. I acknowledge that my earnings of $1,332.20 in 2022 so far might seem small compared to others in the Medium community. But why compare yourself to them? They aren't measuring their success against you. Focus on your own progress rather than fixating on how far you are from your goals. Time will pass anyway, so why not start now?

Chapter 2: Analyzing My Earnings and Strategies
Let’s delve into more practical and encouraging details! Of the 56 articles I published in 2022, 18 were featured in various publications, and 10 of those articles received at least 500 views, which significantly contributed to my income. Notably, just four articles generated approximately $678 of my total revenue.
Here’s a breakdown of my earnings from these articles, ordered from highest to lowest:
A Word About Goals and Organization
Fortunately, I didn't need to conduct complicated research for this article, as I maintain a meticulous record of my publications, future article ideas, and progress toward my goals on the platform.
For example, my current objectives include:
- 60,000 views in the last 30 days (currently at 15,700)
- 300 articles published (currently at 242)
- Earn $1,000 this month ($543)
- Articles generating income (82)
- Articles earning $1 or more (34)
- Articles earning $10 or more (11)
- Articles earning $50 or more (4)
- Articles earning $100 or more (1)
Through my calculations, approximately 60,000 views per month on Medium translates to about $2,000 CAD after taxes, which is my target for now. This estimate is based on the assumption that every 25 views equates to $1. While I don't spend excessive time on this "money math," it serves as a motivating tool.
I set "stretch" goals that are slightly challenging yet attainable. For instance, while aiming to write 1,000 articles feels daunting, reaching my 300th article is within reach.
My follower growth has seen a significant increase over the last few months.
I also track my monthly earnings, the number of articles making money, and the thresholds they reach. This tracking is motivating as I witness my progress accumulate, encouraging me to surpass it the following month. It’s a rewarding challenge that not only pays but also enhances my writing skills with every article.
If you begin today and commit to writing (and publishing!) an article daily—even on days when you may not feel inspired—you’ll find that within a year, you could surpass the number of articles I've written throughout my entire Medium journey. What I approached casually over the years can become your intense focus, reflecting positively in your results and finances.
However, keep in mind that quality matters as much as quantity. A well-crafted article that takes a week to perfect holds more value—both artistically and financially—than a hundred hastily written pieces.
Moreover, consider your audience while writing, rather than solely focusing on your own experiences. Reflecting on this article's beginning, I realize how many sentences began with "I." While it was appropriate for this context, typically, you want to create content that resonates with your readers and addresses their interests. Thoughtful and empathetic writing will yield better financial rewards than self-centered narratives.
I’m excited to share further insights and helpful advice to assist you in making Medium your primary career. I'm here to support you, and together we can all succeed.
Best wishes,
