Navigating Heartbreak: Embracing Change and Self-Love

Chapter 1: A Sinking Ship

In the depths of a crowded mind, my thoughts struggle to find their way. The overwhelming noise can be unbearable at times.

Reality offers no refuge, my friend; it's time to abandon the sinking ship. Remaining steadfast won’t earn you a medal for bravery. The Titanic of your heart won’t be salvaged, and the void within will only expand.

Sometimes, it’s alright to release your grip. This battle was never yours to fight. Flee before the emptiness consumes your spirit, before you become a mere shadow of who you once were—a fading dream forever out of reach.

Love can be a double-edged sword. It can ensnare and wound you deeply. It can lift you high, only to bring you crashing down, leaving you to fight for survival with scars that may never heal.

It’s Time to Let Go of Your Sinking Titanic

I penned this poem in early 2022, realizing that my relationship resembled a sinking ship—a vessel I had no choice but to abandon. The decision was excruciating; leaving behind a decade-long bond felt like betrayal.

I was ensnared in a relentless struggle between moving on and clinging to the comfort of what we had built together. The thought of leaving those cherished moments—the joyous highs and painful lows—felt like losing a part of myself.

The sense of loss was immense; he was my ally, my partner-in-crime, and the one who shared my 20s. Breaking away felt like tearing out a piece of my heart.

Yet, deep down, I recognized that it was time to release my hold. I was tired of being tossed around like a yo-yo, waiting endlessly for someone else to prioritize our relationship. It was time for me to choose myself.

Amidst the heartache, discomfort, and uncertainty, I glimpsed a flicker of hope. I had the opportunity to rediscover who I was without my partner and to embrace new adventures.

For the first time, I learned the importance of prioritizing and loving myself. Yes, ending the relationship was necessary, but it also marked the beginning of a journey where I learned to stand independently and shape my own happiness.

I take pride in this growth; a few years ago, leaving would have felt impossible. I believed love meant unwavering loyalty, standing by your partner regardless of the pain they caused. Now, I’m grateful to recognize the flaws in that perspective.

Love ought to empower you, not bring you suffering.

Remember: Those who truly love you will not subject you to turmoil.
