Chapter 1: Introduction to Glitch Deck NFT

FINAL UPDATE, JAN. 9, 2024: I genuinely attempted to gain traction with this project, reaching out to various influencers and industry contacts. Unfortunately, it proved challenging to secure any responses regarding my revenue-sharing proposal, which would allow influencers to earn from their promotions — a concept that has since been adopted by other NFT ventures. Despite numerous outreach efforts, I received no commitments from promoters who were willing to work on a success-based model. They all wanted upfront payment. Ultimately, the project didn’t take off as I had hoped!

Now, after nearly a year without any paid mints, I’ve decided on the following course of action: I will distribute 40% of the proceeds to the holders of the Deck of Degeneracy NFT, as previously promised. I’ve coordinated with the founder, Jonathan Little, to allocate these funds toward freeroll poker tournaments for DoD holders. Consequently, I distributed 0.2016 ETH (approximately $464) to the DoD wallet.

While I regret that the amount isn’t significantly higher or that I couldn't realize my original vision of providing each holder with $200, I hope this will still serve as a nice bonus for the community. I’ve now disabled the free claims and appreciate the 160+ holders who made use of the offer. The initial terms and vision outlined below have now been fulfilled ahead of schedule, given the absence of mints since March 2023.

The project is now available for public minting as a personal endeavor, independent of any affiliations. The minting price has been reduced to 0.004 ETH (less than $10). Chapter 2: Background of the Project

Recently, I conceptualized a unique idea, which resulted from the convergence of several thoughts: (1) my fascination with glitch art, (2) the coding of generative animated NFTs, and (3) my appreciation for the Deck of Degeneracy NFT drop, of which I have been a holder since its inception.

Although I typically focus on static profile picture (PFP) work, I have been exploring more experimental avenues for the sake of artistry. My attraction to glitch art lies in its chaotic nature, which inspires various coding possibilities.

As a proof-of-concept, I created a glitchy queen of spades. After developing a complex algorithm, I produced this:

This initial animation experiment motivated me to explore further variations by altering colors, card types, suits, and introducing additional glitch features.

Tie-In With the Deck of Degeneracy NFT Drop

On a whim, I tweeted my vision to Jonathan Little, the head of the Deck of Degeneracy.

The summary of my proposal was, “What if I could put some ETH directly into the pockets of every DoD holder?” This isn't a typical offer for NFT founders, and when considered, it’s exactly the kind of value proposition that founders appreciate.

Jonathan responded, and we exchanged ideas over the next few days. I initially proposed minting the set at 0.05 ETH, but after discussions, we adjusted the numbers. Ultimately, I decided to create an animated generative NFT drop, aptly named “Glitch Deck NFT.” This will include 150 unique decks of cards (Ace through King, plus jokers, totaling 54 cards per deck), resulting in 8,100 cards overall.

I’ve refined several aspects of the project after much contemplation. Instead of a claim system where each DoD NFT gets one claim per token, I’m shifting to an allow-list system, allowing all DoD holder wallets to be whitelisted for FIVE FREE mints (just pay gas fees).

This adjustment benefits 380 of the 512 DoD holders more than the previous system and minimizes overall gas fees. The top 96 holders will receive something special, while the top 5 holders will enjoy an additional bonus of free mints.

The allow-list will open in two phases: firstly, exclusively for DoD token holders for one week, followed by a public sale.

Interestingly, if the public sale consumes some of the available mints, the 40% wallet allocated to the DoD community will capture additional funds for redistribution. Thus, regardless of outcomes, the situation remains beneficial for all involved.

My main goal is to encourage not just ownership but also collecting, which is vital in the NFT space.

DoD Holder Benefits: NFTs and ETH!

Here’s the exciting part for Deck of Degeneracy NFT holders: Each DoD holder will receive FIVE free mints based on a snapshot taken on February 11, 2023. The top 96 holders (those with six or more DoDs) will receive a unique airdrop post-mint, featuring a special poker-related trait not found elsewhere.

I have reserved 100 NFTs for future giveaways, with the remaining 5,300 NFTs being minted for the public. The wallet will hold 40% of the primary mint earnings, which will be equally distributed among all holders based on the snapshot date.

If we achieve a price of 0.031 ETH for each mint, the 40% pool for DoD holders would amount to over 65 ETH, translating to approximately 0.129 ETH (around $200) per holder.

I plan to launch on February 14, with a pre-reveal image initially, followed by a reveal expected by February 21.

NFT Pricing Strategy

My aspiration is to commit around $100,000 to the Deck of Degeneracy community, divided equally among all holders. Initially, I calculated a minting price of 0.031 ETH for the 5,301 mintable NFTs.

However, with the upcoming mint date, I've realized that gaining market traction will be more challenging than anticipated, so I’ve recalibrated the pricing strategy. The public mint price will now be 0.042 ETH (approximately $63), allowing me to seek influencer marketing assistance.

I plan to implement an affiliate marketing model, which provides transparent involvement for influencers. Those minting through influencer links will be able to mint for 0.035 ETH, a savings of over $10. Influencers will earn 0.004 ETH for each mint they drive.

Ultimately, this strategy ensures the DoD deal remains intact, with the allocation potentially increasing due to the new approach.

Plans for ETH Distribution

Regarding the allocation for DoD holders, while I love the concept, it would be simpler if the project sold out quickly, allowing for immediate distributions. However, if sales are lackluster, I have a structured plan for distribution over the next year:

• If the set sells out immediately (expecting around 65 ETH), I will distribute ETH to all 512 DoD holders.
• If the designated wallet accumulates between 20 ETH and 65 ETH by June 1, I will conduct distributions at that time.
• For collections under 20 ETH, I will invest in valuable NFTs for giveaways.
• If the project does not mint out by February 14, 2024, the arrangement will be deemed null, and any remaining funds will be awarded to a randomly selected DoD holder.

I want to maintain transparency throughout this process, clarifying that recipients are responsible for any tax implications associated with receiving ETH.

Roadmap and Utility

This initiative is primarily an art project, and there is no predefined roadmap at this stage. However, if a community forms around this project, I would welcome the opportunity to offer various utilities tied to ownership, such as whitelist spots for future drops.

Philosophy: The Rationale Behind This Project

I believe it’s extraordinary to hold an NFT that may unexpectedly yield $200 or more. The DoD community has been enjoyable since its inception, and I feel this project is a fitting way to add value to its members.

I’m always exploring new models and ways to support individuals or teams. This drop aims to provide direct ETH rewards to a community in exchange for their support, driving value and engagement.
