Exciting Features I Hope to See in the 2022 MacBook Air

Chapter 1: Anticipating the 2022 MacBook Air
The buzz is palpable as speculation swirls around the upcoming 2022 version of Apple's most affordable laptop, the MacBook Air. Questions abound: Will it feature the new M2 chip? Will it retain its signature tapered design? Could we see a fresh color palette, possibly incorporating white bezels?
While no one beyond Apple's inner circle has the answers, the speculation is part of the fun. Here’s what I’d love to see from Apple to convince me to upgrade from my fantastic M1 MacBook Air.
Section 1.1: Size Matters
Rumors suggest a larger 15" MacBook Air may debut this year. I can certainly envision practical applications for such a device. Furthermore, I would love to see a compact 12" variant—essentially a modernized MacBook without any suffix. A portable laptop featuring the M2 chip would be both aesthetically pleasing and functional.
A 12" model would serve those who need to work on the go—be it in coffee shops or boardrooms. A reduction in bezel size could offer a comparable screen area to the existing M1 MacBook Air, while also enhancing portability and ease of transport.
For those priced out of the MacBook Pro range or those who simply desire a larger display without the added power, a 15" model could be the perfect solution. This would cater especially to remote workers, writers, and students who occasionally need to move their devices.
Subsection 1.1.1: Preserving the Wedge Design
While I recognize that change is inevitable, I personally adore the classic wedge design. I prefer my MacBook Air to resemble its predecessors rather than a tablet with a keyboard attached. The unique wedge shape carries an undeniable charm.
Of course, I understand the desire for a refreshed aesthetic. Reducing the oversized bezels, by contemporary standards, would be a significant design improvement. A splash of new colors would be welcome, but let’s keep Space Grey as an option, please!
Section 1.2: Reintroducing the Glowing Apple Logo
Yes, I might be a bit nostalgic, but if Apple can return to MagSafe charging and multiple ports on the MacBook Pro, surely they can also revive the beloved glowing Apple logo on the MacBook Air lid. I would go to great lengths to see this feature make a comeback.
While the glowing logo doesn't enhance performance or benchmarks, it adds a certain flair to the device. Given the excellent battery life of the M1 MacBook Air, the additional power consumption of the logo would likely be negligible.
Chapter 2: Port Preferences and Innovative Ideas
The first video provides insights into the essential tips and tricks for the MacBook Air M2, which could enhance your user experience significantly.
In terms of ports, I'm not overly concerned with increasing their number, as seen in the newer MacBook Pros. However, having USB-C ports on either side of the MacBook Air would alleviate some minor frustrations regarding power cable management. Although I welcome the return of MagSafe, it's not a pressing issue for me since I usually charge my device while at my desk.
Section 2.1: Screen Features and Functionality
Previously, I owned a PixelBook Go that came with a touchscreen. Surprisingly, I hardly ever utilized that feature. While I can see the benefits of a touchscreen on a convertible device, it feels awkward on a clamshell laptop. Thus, I have no desire to see a touchscreen MacBook Air.
Subsection 2.1.1: Innovative Charging Capabilities
Let’s get creative for a moment. Imagine having the ability to charge your iPhone simply by placing it on your MacBook Air! Dubbed "reverse charging via MagSafe," this concept could be a game changer. With the stellar battery life of the M1 MacBook Air, such functionality shouldn’t be out of reach for Apple’s engineering team.
This capability could significantly enhance the current trend of working remotely, making it easier to stay charged and connected anywhere.
Conclusion: The Future is Uncertain
Ultimately, no one can predict how the 2022 MacBook Air will actually turn out, or if it will even launch at all. This piece reflects my musings on what I hope to see in the next iteration. What features would inspire you to upgrade from your M1 MacBook Air?
