How Daily Writing Transformed My Life Journey
Written on
Chapter 1: The Start of a New Habit
Initially, my motivation to write daily stemmed from a desire to demonstrate my self-discipline. I committed to crafting a blog post of over 500 words each day for an entire year, regardless of circumstances.
At first, my intent wasn't to attract followers or gain recognition; it was merely a test of my commitment to myself.
One summer evening, while enjoying drinks with college friends, I suddenly realized that it was 11:30 p.m. and I had yet to fulfill my daily writing obligation. Thankfully, having established a writing routine for months, I instinctively grabbed my phone and dedicated the next half hour to typing my blog post, tuning out my friends in the process.
This marked the first significant commitment I couldn't abandon, as it held great personal value. While I stumbled along the way, ultimately completing about 340 posts, I still proved to myself that I could maintain discipline.
However, as I continued, the expectations from my readers began to rise. Upon checking my follower count after those 340 posts, I was disheartened to see only "24 followers" — and I knew at least half were friends and family.
Not exactly a "life-changing" figure, was it? Nevertheless, my habit was firmly established, so I pressed on with my writing.
Section 1.1: The Long Road to Recognition
It took an additional six months—18 months in total—before I noticed any significant change. Up to that point, my daily writing efforts had yielded no tangible rewards, and it felt like I was pouring my energy into a void.
Reflecting on that year and a half, I can't deny I felt disheartened, often questioning my abilities as a writer.
At the 18-month mark, I finally penned a post that unexpectedly went viral. Within two weeks, it garnered 500,000 views, leading to my work being featured in TIME, The Huffington Post, and Inc.com. Since that breakthrough, I've consistently received over 500,000 views every month, averaging 3–5 posts daily for the last five years.
Subsection 1.1.1: From Writing to Entrepreneurship
Leveraging the attention and followers I gained, I successfully built my own business and transitioned to full-time self-employment. It’s important to note that I didn’t earn anything from my posts until years after that pivotal moment.
Section 1.2: The Impact of Consistency
Daily writing has profoundly altered my life in numerous ways:
- I can now earn a living doing what I love.
- I’ve been invited to share my expertise through interviews.
- Each day, individuals seek my guidance and advice.
- My passion for writing has deepened.
- Writing brings me joy, regardless of my mood.
- I can provide more for my family and offer greater value to others.
- I feel I am creating something truly meaningful.
In retrospect, dedicating a year and a half to daily writing without immediate rewards was entirely worth it.
Chapter 2: Embracing the Struggle
If you had asked me during those challenging times, you would have encountered a frustrated, possibly tearful, aspiring writer.
To anyone currently grappling with self-doubt, take heart: my initial blog post was far from impressive. What matters most isn’t innate talent but rather the discipline to keep working at it daily. Commit yourself to your craft, and even if you don’t see immediate results, trust that your efforts will pay off in the long run.
