Chasing the $1K Dream: A New Month, A New Challenge
Written on
Chapter 1: Revisiting the $1K Goal
Not long ago, I embarked on a challenge to generate $1,000 in earnings for the month of February, starting from the last nine days of the month. To my delight, I succeeded, ending up with $1,060.83 in a month with only 29 days. However, this past month has proven more difficult, as many faced obstacles ranging from spam issues to account suspensions. Despite these challenges, I’m determined to secure at least $1,000 in March.
The stakes have risen, not by my own doing, but due to the circumstances surrounding us. With just eight days remaining in the month, my starting point is $23.86 lower than it was last time. The countdown has commenced once again.
As of March 23, 2024, the math is as follows: $1,000 - $692.89 = $330.97. This is the amount I need to earn over the next eight days, including today, to reach my goal.
Let’s break it down further:
To meet this target, I’ll need an average daily earning of $330.97/8 = $41.37. Currently, my average earnings per read hover around $0.16. If we adjust our expectations to $0.12 and $0.15, this is what I’d require daily:
- At $0.12: $41.37/0.12 = 344 reads
- At $0.15: $41.37/0.15 = 275 reads
This range reflects my experience in February. However, my recent average earnings per read have improved to approximately $0.19, which provides a glimmer of hope. I managed to exceed 200 reads on six out of the 23 days thus far. Achieving this pace daily for the next eight days will be challenging but not impossible.
Calculating further:
- At $0.19: $41.37/0.19 = 217.7 reads
Mission Impossible, Again?
As of March 23, my overall read ratio stands at 63.6%, with earnings per read at $0.166. In my last post, I outlined how to evaluate the quality of writing using read ratios and earnings per read. The data currently suggests I might not meet my goal, but life is about challenges—either you choose them or they choose you.
Struggling for what you are passionate about can be a rewarding experience, while the opposite can be disheartening. Have you met your goals for March, or have you faced setbacks like me? Would you dare to take on such a challenge?
It seems that after the events of March, many readers have lost their drive, as if confidence in earning on Medium has diminished. I’ve noticed a decline in activity among several writers, including:
