The AirPods 4 feature a completely redesigned structure, crafted from extensive research on various ear shapes. Apple claims that the new design ensures a secure and comfortable fit, even during vigorous activities.

Additionally, the incorporation of pressure-sensitive tips enhances user interaction, allowing for effortless control over music playback and active noise cancellation—eliminating the need to tap the sides of the earbuds.

Charging Features

The introduction of a USB-C charging port brings Apple closer to a one-cable charging solution. The AirPods 4 case is notably more compact, representing the smallest case yet, while still promising an impressive battery life of up to 30 hours.

Moreover, the new case supports wireless charging, compatible with any Qi-certified charger, including the Apple Watch charging puck. Similar to the AirPods Pro 2, the case features built-in speakers to assist with the FindMy function.

New H2 Chipset

Equipped with the advanced Apple H2 chipset—shared with the more expensive AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Max—the AirPods 4 offer enhanced audio quality, delivering deeper bass and clearer highs. Apple has revamped the acoustic design to elevate sound output.

This chipset also enables advanced audio capabilities previously available only on higher-tier models. Users can now experience Personalized Spatial Audio, which creates an immersive surround sound effect. If you haven’t yet experienced this feature, it's truly remarkable.

Furthermore, calling clarity is enhanced with features like Voice Isolation, which effectively minimizes background noise. This feature has become indispensable for me on my AirPods Pro 2. The AirPods 4 also introduce a gesture to accept or decline calls by shaking your head.

Active Noise Cancellation

The AirPods 4 also present a second variant that incorporates active noise cancellation into an open-ear design. Many users have preferred the regular AirPods for comfort but missed the noise-canceling functionality.

With this update, those users can finally enjoy both comfort and features. This advancement is made possible through improved microphones and the latest H2 chipset, which enables active noise cancellation, transparency mode, and adaptive audio features.

Additionally, the Conversation Awareness feature lowers media volume automatically when it detects conversation, a function I find exceptionally useful on my AirPods Pro 2.

Pricing and Availability

The AirPods 4 will be available in two versions. The standard model retails at the familiar price of $129, while the Active Noise Cancellation version is priced at $179.

Final Thoughts

I am enthusiastic about the fresh updates in the AirPods lineup. The inclusion of active noise cancellation without the steep price of $249 is a significant advantage, especially for those who dislike silicone tips.
